Betty Lott Lauffenburger, 92, of Visalia passed away on January 5, 2022 at home with her loved ones by her side. Betty was born on September 29, 1929, in Memphis, Tennessee to S.C. and Juanita Lott. She grew up in Bude, Mississippi and later attend Central High School in Memphis. After graduation she attended Sophie Newcomb College (Tulane University) in New Orleans, LA where she graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Betty obtained her teaching credential and began her high school teaching career in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She moved to Visalia in 1953 where she spent the next thirteen years teaching English and Spanish, first at Redwood High School and then later at Mt. Whitney High School. While at Mt. Whitney she also served as head of the language department. Not long after arriving in Visalia she met her husband, John Raymond Lauffenburger. They were married on August 22, 1954. Betty continued teaching until 1966 when she retired from education to help her husband start their drycleaning business, Country Club Cleaners. She worked alongside John in the family business for the next 18 years. Betty spent several years volunteering at Kaweah Delta Hospital. During her tenure there she served as President of the Hospital Guild as well as a Board Member of the Hospital Foundation. She and John loved to travel and took many wonderful vacations in the United States as well as abroad. They particularly loved their yearly month-long trips to Mazatlan, Mexico where their children and grandchildren would come down to spend time with them. Betty is survived by her son John Jr. (Margaret), daughter Jeannie (John), and her grandchildren Eric (Chloe), Andy, Cameron, and Rebecca. She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, and sister Jean Peyton. The family will have a private memorial. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kaweah Health Foundation.
