Connie Jo Comer

June 1, 1961 — August 6, 2020

Connie Jo Comer was born to John and Shirley Scroggins in Portland, Oregon on June 1, 1961. Connie is the third child of the family having been preceded by Debbie and Greg. Later, a fourth child was added, also John. Connie was glad for the opportunity to help raise her younger brother. Connie displayed imagination and determination, characteristics that would assist her forward toward goals and dreams to which she aspired. Important in Connie’s life is her commitment to Jesus Christ, her Savior. She is in heaven today. Connie’s childhood adventures were lived out in Oregon, California, Idaho, Iowa (where she graduated high school) and back to California. She graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1986 after completing studies in Journalism-Public Relations. Connie was able to move to New York for a year to utilize the degree she had completed. What better place could there be, she thought, to practice journalism than New York City. Upon returning to Visalia to visit her parents at home, the next phase of Connie’s life took shape in that she met Brad Comer. The two fell in love and were married exactly one year later. Two children were born to the union, David and Megan. Connie was a devoted mother. Her children found support, blessing and comfort in her. The children’s birthday parties were notable in the early years, the highlight possibly being a cowboy themed party complete with supervised pony rides in the back yard. Connie encouraged the children to set and achieve goals, sometimes adding some motherly motivation. Connie was glad to work for Don Sharp/Sharp Insurance and was promoted over time to a key marketing position in the operation. Her career in insurance was continued in 2013 with Buckman Mitchell in Visalia and culminated with her ongoing work for Gallagher. Her leadership and support in her department will be missed. Family and friends were important in Connie’s life and she was very happy to have dinners at Thanksgiving or Christmas. She was concerned to have everyone at a single table and requested that tables be moved to that end. Connie is survived by her parents, John and Shirley Scroggins; siblings Debbie (Dan) Wynkoop, Greg (Debbie) Scroggins, and John (Megan) Scroggins; husband Brad Comer and her children David (Casey) Comer and Megan (Jonathan) Maertens. Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 9:00am, at the Visalia District Cemetery.
