Jeryn Oles

July 15, 1934 — August 28, 2023

Jeryn Oles (nee Thomas), age 89, passed away at 11:45 AM on Monday, August 28, 2023 at the Quail Park on Cypress Retirement Community in Visalia, CA. She was born July 15, 1934 near Terre Haute, Indiana in the family farm house in Fontanent, Indiana. Subsequently she grew up at various locations in Indiana, Illinois, Oklahoma, Florida and Tennessee before settling in Columbus, Ohio with her parents in the early 1950s. She attended The Ohio State University in the early 1950s where she met and married her first husband Joseph B. Humphrey in 1954; they were later divorced in 1967. While single she completed her college degree in Fine Arts at Ohio State in 1968. She met and married her second husband Ronald Oles in 1969. She is survived by her son, David Thomas Humphrey (Patricia) of Three Rivers, CA; grandson, Christopher Thomas Humphrey (Natalie) of Cody, WY; great granddaughters Hannah Elizabeth Humphrey (age 6), Sarah Angela Humphrey (age 4) and Eliana Grace Humphrey (age 2) also of Cody, WY. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Ronald Lyle Oles (b. 1/31/1935, d. 5/4/2022), parents Clarence Wilbur “Tommy” Thomas and Elsye Louise Thomas (both died in 1987) and daughter Christine Humphrey (1997). Jery (with one R) lived a long, productive life and will be missed by many as she was passionate about fiber arts, winning awards for her creations and being published for her creative weaving designs as well as being socially active with her husband Ron playing bridge for many years in Ohio and then in Oregon (from 2003 until 2019). She also was a lover of cats, as anyone that knew her would attest to (her memoir was entitled “A Nine Cat Life”). Additionally, she was an avid book reader and volunteered at the West Linn Library in Oregon for a number of years as well as the Quail Park Lodge Library. She was also active in Seniornet after its inception in the 1990s. She will be remembered for her selfless acts of kindness and caring ways by family and friends alike. In lieu of flowers donations can be made on Jery’s behalf to The Ohio State University Foundation (https://give.osu.edu). Services in Care of Hadley Marcom Funeral Chapel.
