Joy Lynn Hughes

Joy Lynn Hughes (Llewellyn), 66, of Visalia, California, passed away on December 21st, 2022. Joy passed away peacefully surrounded by her Children and Daughter-In-Law. Joy was born on September 21st, 1956, to Ramona Iacono (Llewellyn) and James Llewellyn in Eureka, California. After graduating from Tulare Union High School in 1974 she attended a Vocational College in the Los Angeles area and became an EKG Tech. In 1980 Joy helped a close friend move to Colorado and ended up falling in love with the area so she stayed. In September of 1980 she met Eric Hughes. The two were engaged in November of 1980 and married on January 10th of 1981. Together they had 5 Children: Callie Hughes, 38, of Visalia, CA., Caitlyn Hughes, 36, of Visalia, CA., Cambria Hughes, 35, of Exeter, CA., Carly Hughes, 34, of Visalia, CA., and Gregory Hughes, 30, of Visalia, CA. In 1989 Joy moved from Carson City, Nevada to Tulare, California with her 4 daughters. In 1991 Joy moved from Tulare to Visalia, then welcomed her son in September of 1992. For several years Joy enjoyed her time as a Stay at Home Mom caring for her 5 young children. In the mid 1990’s, Joy returned to school at Golden State Business College where she received an accounting degree. Upon graduation Joy took a job at Haagen-Dazs in Tulare, California as a member of their Accounts Payable department. She continued to work at Haagen-Dazs for well over a decade. Joy was loved by all who met her. She was the biological Mother to 5 Children who loved her fiercely, but she was the honorary Mother to many of her Children’s friends as well. Joy welcomed everyone into her home and heart, she loved without judgment and offered that warmth to anyone who needed it. She was a devoted and loving Mother to her Children as well as a wonderful Aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. Joy made sure birthdays were special, achievements were celebrated, Christmas was magical, and deep-rooted family values were instilled. Joy eventually became Nana to 7 Grandchildren who she loved with all of her heart. Joy was preceded in death by her father, James Llewellyn. She is survived by her mother, Ramona Iacono, brother Brian Llewellyn, sister Cindy DeLuce, children: Callie Hughes, Caitlyn Hughes, Cambria Hughes, Carly Hughes, and Gregory Hughes, daughter-in-law Katelyn Hughes, grandchildren: James, Peyton, Xane, Lillian, Hunter, Owyn, and Benjamin, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joy loved her family, both immediate and extended. She was loved by everyone who was left behind, and she will be greatly missed.
