Mel Craig passed away June 22, 2021, at the age of 73. Mel was born on July 16, 1947, to George and Delphene Craig in Woodlake, California. Mel is survived by his wife of 50 years Donna Craig, Children Charles and Dawn Craig and granddaughter Devyn MacRae. Mel grew up in a country home just outside of Orosi, CA where he attended Orosi High School until he was drafted into the U.S Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam and returned home and served in the Army National Guard. During which time, he was activated for the Rodney King riots to Los Angeles as well as the Northridge Earthquakes in the 1990’s. SSG Craig deployed again in October 2001 immediately following the 9/11 attacks on the United States of America to the Umatilla Chemical Depot based in Umatilla, Oregon. Mel served again during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to assist in recovery efforts to New Orleans, LA and finally retired in 2007. As a civilian, he worked for Visalia Unified School District as a supervisor for tech-services and retired after 20 years. He was a loving, kind and generous person who lived life to its fullest, Mel loved his friends and his community and will be sorely missed but we will be lovingly remembered and his memory cherished. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Hadley-Marcom Funeral Chapel of Visalia. Mel will be laid to rest in the Visalia Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021.
