Ramona G. Turner

September 3, 1946 — August 4, 2020

Ramona Grace Turner, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Tuesday, August 4th, 2020. She passed peacefully in her home, where she wanted to be, in Visalia, Ca. at age 73. Her home in the country, and family, were her most prized possessions. Ramona was born to Gladys Marie Didway and Leroy Didway, on September 3rd, 1946, here in Visalia, where she lived most of her life. Ramona is survived by her husband of over 46 years, Wayne Turner, 77, and her three children. Her children are Rhonda Oates, 53, from Woodland Ca., Joey Oates, 50, and Melissa Flud, 45, both from Visalia. Ramona was a proud Grandmother of 5 Grandchildren, and 5 Great Grandchildren. Ramona was very invested in her Grandchildren and she was active in teaching and advocating learning at every stage of their development. She always wanted the best for her beloved Grandchildren. At age 49, Ramona gave her family an incredible gift. Cancer having eliminated her daughter Rhonda’s ability to give birth, a medical procedure allowed Ramona to be the surrogate womb for her daughter and son-in-law. She carried their twins, Nolan and Shane - her grandchildren - through a healthy pregnancy to a successful delivery, bringing indescribable joy for the new parents, the other grandparents and all family involved. Ramona worked for SVS (Social Vocational Services) for over 30 years. She was a Job Coach, working with the Developmentally Disabled, helping train them to function in their jobs and helping them integrate into society. Ramona had a great capacity for understanding and patience. She loved her job, and all of her “clients”, as they were referred to. Helping people in any capacity she was capable of was a cornerstone of the woman she was. Ramona was a faithful member of her Church, Visalia Calvary Baptist. She and members of her family helped with actual building construction of the satellite facility on the grounds. This was the only Church she attended in Visalia. She was a dedicated member and drew as many of her family members into the congregation as possible. She was working to grow the Church at any opportunity. Ramona was an avid animal lover and advocate. She loved her cats and dogs over the years. She went out of her way to feed and care for the less fortunate animals that came across her path in life. Her heart and soul were open for the needy, no matter if it were pets, homeless animals, or her few favorite charities. Ramona loved her roses that lined the perimeter of her front yard. Many roses had specific names with obvious sentimental value and variations of color. They were among her many pride and joy, of her beloved home. She had her front porch awning lined with hanging wind chimes. She love the sound of the various tones, of the individual sound from each chime. Ramona loved her morning ritual of reading her Bible and Daily Bread, often during her breakfast time. She loved to enjoy her morning coffee, after finishing her breakfast, sitting in her seat, on her front porch, often listening the musical tones from the wind chimes. Country living allows for what seems like near constant wind gusts, where those chimes were rarely still and quiet. Integrated between the wind chimes, were her Humming Bird feeders. She loved seeing them buzz around during the day, especially during coffee break time in the mornings. Ramona loved to sew and bake. She loved to create special things for her Grandchildren, especially blankets and bath towel hoodies for the youngest. She was an amazing baker and brought many delicious desserts to family and Church events. She also was never without her camera during family functions. She never wanted to miss a moment, and used the picture taking to help catch as many special moments as possible. Ramona was a kind and loving person and she is dearly missed by her family and friends. Graveside Services for Ramona will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 8:30am, Visalia Cemetery.
